[January 2012] US GOREGRIND SPECIAL

METHADONE ABORTION CLINIC/BIOLOGICAL MONSTROSITY Split CD
(Goatgrind Records - GGR022)
Release date: 2011
Running time: 26:30

Review:
Methadone Abortion Clinic has been around a while (at least since the mid-2000's), they originally started to develop as the embryo of a drum machine goregrind band; but they've now sickly matured into a full fledged band, with real drumming and too fat to legally abort! Vocals sound pretty hateful, low and pitch-shifted, exploding with puke, backed up by a grinding rumble of downtuned guitars, catchy midpaced doublebass and a bunch of blasting tempos too... You probably know the whole score! Sound production is pretty massive. The whole Lou Rusconi comic book imagery gives this stuff a Rompeprop feel. Besides the title song, Methadone Abortion Clinic actually seems to have a nastier and obnoxious streak of offensiveness running through most of their stuff rather than just a jokey porn thing. And musically the band keeps it pretty serious, I can't think of many more bands from the US playing the Cock and Ball Torture style of goregrind this effectively right now. The cd opens with a rather lengthy intro of a rape scene taken from "Chaos" (Last House on the Left rip-off), samples are kept to a minimum afterwards, but there's a couple of unescapable silly porn samples here and there. Overall alot of sick, barf-worthy but very enjoyable fun, definitely some of the most solid goregrind shit laying around these days...

Review: Biological Monstrosity from Longueuil (Quebec) is the perfect fit to M.A.C. as another band perpetrating totally perverse and degenerate goregrind that most sane people wouldn't want to touch with a ten-foot pole! I've rarely heard such a well-balanced split release, both bands are pretty much equally kick-ass and equally loathsome, I couldn't pick a favorite between the two. The music feels really heavy and downtuned with a thick sound, strictly awesome pitch-shifted vocals, some really grinding straightforward powerchord riffing... Ben (also responsible for the hysterical drum machine porn/grind unit Sperm Swamp) is one hell of talented grind drummer too... His style strikes me as very close to some of Dead Infection's stuff, just super tight, really bouncy sound and tons of catchy blasts and double bass pummeling. The artwork is looking pretty repulsive with a greenish band logo that kind of looks like a huge pile of moss or something?! Really digging the crude and totally old school hand-painted style of the cover too, refreshing to see something like this in these days of boring digitally enhanced cover art! The cd ends with a killer Dysmenorrheic Hemorrhage cover version, and this stuff sounds just as cool with real drums, I wouldn't mind seeing the Biological Monstrosity dudes start a D.H. cover band! Maybe as a side project? Nothing much else to say, just a perfectly putrid split!

BIRTH/HUMAN JERKY Split CD
(Violent Annoyise Records - V.A.Rec. 001)
Release date: 2010
Running time: 37:48

Birth Review:
This Minnesota based two-piece band epitomizes the beautiful, brutal simplicity of drum machine goregrind! Birth's music is like a bombardment of blastbeats that annihilates everything in its path. The octave lowering pitch-shifting defaces any annoyingly human trait in the voices leaving only pure beast-like gurgling howling insanity! I'd place Birth in a middle between the filthy but catchy decaying sounds of Dysmenorrheic Hemorrhage and the pulsating blasting impact of Pantalones Abajo Marinero... terrific guitar hooks boasting an insanely sick and decrepit overdriven tone, an appropriately run-down, seedy sound production which actually adds a wild intensity to the whole thing... The band's non-scumbag goregrind ethos is also a nice touch, but these song titles feel fiercely misanthropic anyway... The Retaliation cover really makes sense too, as Birth's music really takes you back to this swedish band's early goregrind days of merciless riffing mixed with pitch-shifted roaring gore shrieks! Gotta give props to my buddy Zarko (Metempsychosis Zine) for his recommendation on this band! This is definitely some of the tightest and most savage goregrind I've heard in a while! These guys seem difficult to get ahold of, but I'll be hunting more of their shit for sure...

Human Jerky Review: Birth is a tough act to follow, but this canadian duo does well for itself also playing sick rummaging goregrind, with the first 7 tracks coming with human drumming, alot of midpaced beats but some awesome blasting moments here and there as well. This is a bass-only line-up which could seem a bit limiting at first but it makes for a pretty unique cavernous vibe. The remaining 13 tracks are slightly more typical drum machine goregrind infested with electronic blast beats. The over-reliance on long movie samples might be a possible turn-off to some people. Especially the Maniac & Bloodsucking Freaks samples which have already been used too many times by the likes of Gut, Mortician, etc... Anyhows,

FESTERFUCK "An Audio Recollection Of Detestable Erectional Midadventure" Cd
(Get Pissed Stay Pissed / Nailjar Records)
Release date: 2011
Running time: 29:04

Review: Wisconsin's Festerfuck put several influences in a blender here, but primarly it's sounding alot like fast, brutal death metal intermingled with enough grind, gore & some hardcore stuff to keep things from getting stale. The album stays very entertaining throughout its entire length with tons of relentlessly grinding, fast and technical riffs (no solos though) and a steady stream of blasts and speed. This is clearly superior musicanship at work here... The approach to songwriting is like a string of dynamic twists and turns, with the band's sick sense of humor often creeping into the song structures... I must admit the comedic aspect of this band often goes over my head though. Most of these 27 tracks run between the 1 & 2 minutes maintaining the expeditted urgency of grindcore. The crux of Festerfuck's influences seems to be Exhumed, it's especially apparent in the vocals displaying equal amounts of high raspy shrieking and extreme low growling, alot of the intricate guitar work is also very Matt Harvey-esque... Some of the songs also break down into Devourment-style slamming death metal (although I have zero knowledge about this style of music, so I'll leave it at that). An additional layer of shouting vocals injects an almost hardcore-style boost at times, which is pretty original for something so grind/death oriented. Sound production is maybe slightly too clean for its own sake (a rawer, crunchier sound would have kicked this up a notch for me)... but yeah, overall a very enjoyable listen!

Tracks: 1)Super Brutal Pillow Fight Fatalities (0:59) 2)If My Fingers Were Penises (0:56) 3)Sorry About The Bite Marks In Your Dunny Can Doorhandle (0:47) 4)Balls Deep In A Corpulent Mass Of Clogged Arteries And Daddy Issues (1:52) 5)Fudgy Knuckle (0:32) 6)Green Olives Make Bitchin' A Butt Plug (0:07) 7)Diaper Sniper (1:14) 8)Conundrum Of The Unkempt Nauseating Trout-hole (0:29) 9)South Of Lake Toluca (1:23) 10)Big Shoes, Big Socks, Big... EMBRYONIC CRYPTOPATHIA/BIOLOGICAL MONSTROSITY/VOMITOMA Split Tape
(Splatterfuck Records FUCK-073/Brain Damage BD-001)
Release date: 2010

Embryonic Cryptopathia Review:
Here we go about penetrating the anatomical depths of fucked up sludgey goregrind! This 2009 rehearsal session doesn't offer many new songs, just raw but highly listenable versions of older material, oozing with loads of sticky, obscure atmosphere. The murky guitar riffs and maniacal drum blasts blend together in a steady flow of detuned grinding sewage... whose bouquet brings about memories from the sickening gritty death metal sound of early Exhumed to the delicious gory slop of Last Days of Humanity! This stuff definitely has a live rehearsal feel, with perhaps some of the churning pitch-shifted vocals being overdubbed after the fact... Some of the samples and interludes are totally bizarre, this band definitely gives me a total alien vibe and the shitty sound actually adds to it. The last 3 tracks sound even filthier than the rest, these are actually tracks from 2006. As a bit of news, Embryonic Cryptopathia seems to still be active! I noticed there was a Split Cd with Hypermesis & Pulmonary Fibrosis in early planning stages... I wouldn't say no to some new tunes by this band!
Tracks: 1)Toxicunt II 2)Urinary Eruption by Severe Pus Clots 3)Frothing Pile of Purulent Bile 4)Toxicunt III 5)Exacerbation of Myxedema 6)Toxicunt IV 7)Gaping Maw for the White Menses 8)Blood Secretes (Eyegouger Cover) 9)Flogged Retard Bile 10)Exacerbation of Myxedema

Biological Monstrosity Review: Quebec's Biological Monstrosity follows with the stand-out performance on this tape! Perhaps due to the powerful, heavy sound production, actually it's perhaps still pretty raw and filthy by normal standards, but more than decent in terms of goregrind! This band really gets the essence of true goregrind, a perfect fusion of Cock and Ball Torture and Dead Infection... with straightforward, crunchy riffs, fucking tight drumming that comes across awesomely, bouncy blastbeats and infectious catchy midpaced rhythms... Really can't think of anything bad about this band. No intro samples for the material on this particular release too, which is a plus as nothing comes along to break up the band's crushing groove...
Tracks: 11)Couverts de Sperme et de Honte 12)Bombardement Stratégique d'Agents Mutagènes 13)Syndrome Treacher Collins: L'Handicap de Jérémie Gabriel l'Enfant Terrible 14)Le Partage Frustrant d'un Unique Sexe Entre Siamois 15)Fistfucking Tracheostomy 16)Pédodélicieux 17)La Pénétrance Semble Complète 18)Craniopagus Parasiticus 19)Zoophallic Plastination for Self Relief

Vomitoma Review: This one's the only drum machine project on this tape and perhaps the most worthy of the Gorenoise tag. Let's see... This shit is the work of one creep hailing from Ohio. It reminds me of dutch gorenoise stuff like Tumour or Urine Festival... Just a barrage of sludgey bass, crude electronic beats and sick, sloshing & rattling vocal effects... It really sounds like a surge of malodorous vomit that took a life of its own... or a collection of sounds of people being drowning on their own puke. Cool, turgescent-looking logo and pretty twisted/creative song titles. Good job.
Tracks: 20)Raped in Medical Garbage 21)Bludgeoned with Frozen Intestines 22)Blistered Peeling Slough Sheets 23)Flushed Flesh 24)Radioactive Syphilis 25)Compelling Carrion Complexion 26)Sewerplow 27)She Gave Birth to a Pile of Hookworms 28)Blowtorch Gynecology 29)Her Face Was Eaten Off and Defecated Down Her Esophagus

AMOEBIC DYSENTERY/LYMPHATIC PHLEGM Split 7" Ep
(Goatgrind Records)
Release date: 2011

Amoebic Dysentery "Requisite Procedures for Gore" Review: Just like Methadone Abortion Clinic, this is another former drum machine project upgrading with real live drumming. However this recording is actually the work of just one-man (Will). Amoebic Dysentery is experiencing some kind of musical rebirth delivering excellent Grind/Gore in a very old school way with strictly putrid pitch-shifted death rattling vocals, some killer grind hooks, tremolo picking and just basic, catchy riffs in general... Alot of this stuff is rather midpaced with just a few blasts and some fuzzy bass-lines... Not as fast and blasting as Amoebic Dysentery's old computer enhanced stuff but what this patho-goregrind unit lost in terms of speed it gained in mood and creepy atmosphere. The squealing guitar leads in the background are a really nice touch too. Names like Exulceration, early Malignant Tumour/Pathologist, General Surgery all popped in my mind while listening to this. It also reminds me alot of what Magnus used to do for Cadaverous Suppuration & Carnal Shroud (all the pre-Ulcerrhoea goregrind stuff). The band has also opted for classic pathological themes rather than their usual brand of sleazy comedy, perhaps as a tribute to Lymphatic Phelgm? I can never get enough of "Reek of Putrefaction" rip-off goregrind, so this is definitely my favorite Amoebic Dysentery material to date and I wouldn't mind hearing more stuff in this direction...
Band link: http://axdxgrind.blogspot.com/
Tracks: 1)Infestation Of Cancerous Organs 2)Lactose Cranium 3)Enhanced Bowel Decomposition Due To Extreme Psoriasis 4)Slowly Bleeding To Death 5)Cremation Box

Lymphatic Phlegm Review: "In my opinion, the death of the poor bastard was caused by massive hemorrhaging" what better way to start your ep than a Zombi 2 quote?! For a supposedly defunct band Lymphatic Phlegm is still putting out an healthy amount of new releases! If you didn't know already this is pretty classic brazilian drum machine goregrind... The material here as well sounds vaguely familiar... but maybe it's just the unmistakable Lymphatic Phlegm style. Pounding drum machine blasts, deathly guitar riffs immersed in reverb and splattery grunting... all the utensils of dissection are gathered for a basic autopsy procedure. This actually gathers several tracks under a single name "Late Pathological Findings", meaning the stuff on there is probably really old, purulent material that has been freshly exhumed from the vaults. Sound quality is pretty damn raw, dirty and mangled: and that's exactly what makes it so good!

LINCOLN LOVE LOG "BBQ Hell" Cd
(Goatgrind Records - GGR019)
Release date: 2011
Running time: 34:35

Review: This one's some of the sleaziest and trashiest stoner sludge rock out there... LLL is purely a drum & bass duo.. The dirty, distorted bass sounds like a slab of human meat sizzling on the grill, and the singer produces screeching shrieks sound like his face is being seared on there too... Drumming-wise this is mostly mid-paced, but really groovy stuff with sparse outbursts of blasting grind here and there. The band's musical atmosphere really stinks up the whole room like a true nauseating barbecue holocaust... I'm guetting serious flashbacks from the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre here, what was cooking in the Cook's barbecue room anyway?! This whole cd has a no-frills, sloppy rehearsal feel with a various degrees of roughness and fucked up low-fi sound quality but the overall effect of the band's music is very impactful, some of these tunes are undeniably catchy. Closest thing to this band could be Sloth in a similar unconventional sludgey style...
But LLL definitely inheritted some of the early Impetigo raw, punkish, virulent energy as well as some of the same bizarre & grotesque creepy feel, that's the Illinois school of noise I guess... These guys also use a bunch of crazy movie samples in a similar way. So it's fitting that Stevo wrote liner notes for this cd... His writings is what makes this impossible to pass up for me! His notes here are like the most awesome review/love letter to Lincolm Love Log, and this guy's enthusiasm is always really infectious... Weirdo noisecore legend Steveggs (Pile of Eggs) also provides a few cool anecdotes about the band... And the cd is packaged in swell comic book style art from Putrid Matt, Jeff Zornow & more...

Tracks:1)Genitalia Warfare (2:01) 2)Cover Me In Sauce (2:26) 3)Spare Rib Holocaust (3:23) 4)My Sweet BBQ (3:45) 5)BBQ Basptism (2:21) 6)Camel Toe (4:52) 7)Double Headed Dildo (2:39) 8)German Potato Salad (1:05) 9)Hot Sause (1:43) 10)Potted Meat (1:43) 11)In My Sewer Two (2:17) 12)Now Your BBQ (1:37) 13)Dis-Member-Mint (3:06) 14)Mondo Macabro (1:37)

INTESTINAL DISGORGE "Dripping in Quiet Places" Cd
(Goatgrind Records - GGR025)
Release date: 2011
Running time: 36:51

Review: I have this lingering memory of Intestinal Disgorge first few albums being near unbearable, traumatic listening experiences, my first instinct was to avoid inflicting further audio torture on myself... However this band's latest work right here is actually very listenable and quite easy on the ears. The band still employs a really disruptive and psychotic kind of song-writing, often times this stuff is grabbing you with catchy d-beat crustgore (definitely my favorite parts), at other times it's meandering into frenzied, screeching, improvisational noisecore territory, where the guitarist seems to be wildly and incoherently scraping along his frets... But the band will throw in a chugging death metal riff and be back on track for a while. Sound production overall is pretty smooth in a standard death metal way, a solid almost Pig Destroyer-like guitar tone coming across with nice clarity and a very meaty drum sound, some of these blastbeats are pretty fucking tight. Musically it feels like a cross between Cephalic Carnage, Dismembered Fetus and Naked City (in particular for the crazed trombone outbursts). The album still closes with a 10 minutes pure electronic harsh noise track that'll destroy whatever's left of your hearing. It's as if the band felt bad for not raping the listener's senses badly enough. I don't think the band uses any lyrics but the booklet includes a really sleazy and repulsive piece of decaying litterature that casts an almost Bukowskiesque mood on the album. This band seems to tirelessly put out new albums and I've missed quite a few of them these last few years... But catching up with Intestinal Disgorge on "Dripping in Quitet Places" was alot more pleasurable than I would have imagined! This shit's alright and definitely worth checking out.

Tracks: 1)Glistening Viscera (0:30) 2)Dripping In Quiet Places (1:42) 3)Struggle To Breathe (1:06) 4)Fly-Eaten Remains (1:49) 5)Dragged Into The Basement (1:03) 6)Warm Mouthful (1:00) 7)Tethered In The Darkness (1:57) 8)Unstoppable (1:27) 9)I'm In Your Attic (0:51) 10)Steaming Face Full (1:06) 11)Force It Down (0:48) 12)You'll End Up In Trash Bags (1:29) 13)Curdled Fluids (1:13) 14)Unrecognizable (1:11) 15)Unearthed And Undressed (0:45) 16)Odor Of Rotting Genitalia (1:05) 17)Festering Holes (1:01) 18)Excrement Filled Esophagus (0:59) 19)Stains On Everything (1:33) 20)Awash In Indigestion (1:11) 21)Hidden For Weeks (0:36) 22)Clean Shaven (0:44) 23)Moment Of Impact (1:08) 24)Don't Be Alarmed (1:06) 25)Inhuman Fetishes (9:31)

COLLIQUATIVE NECROSIS & INFECTING THE DISSECTED Demo Cdrs
(www.incinerator.us)
Release date: 2011
Review:
Here's something weird. I feel like James Woods stumbling upon one of these strange TV signals from Videodrome with this one. All I know is that this Colliquative Necrosis project is the work of a pretty mysterious guy named Joe! His musical background is rooted in Harsh Noise with his previous project called RDCD (http://www.trangsao.org/) but this here is an attempt at some kind of Gore Noise... this stuff is alot trippier and psychedelic than usual for the genre. You've got the customary pounding electronic blastbeats and the sick rattling/gurgling vocals but this stuff is also bathed in ambient kind of droning, synth noise... This stuff is totally repetitious but strangely I'm really getting hooked on some of this stuff, especially all the white noise parts... I'm not usually into gorenoise but this one feels quite mesmerizing to me... Obviously this really isn't gonna be for everyone... But if you've got a taste for the bizarre and a love for noise maybe you should try to get in touch with this guy there: purerdcd@gmail.com
here's a mp3 sample: "Raining Maggots (Upon the Desecrated)"

Tracks: 1)Necrotic Intro 2)Pustulated Abscess 3)Infested with Worms 4)Necrotic Sepsism 5)Interlude (Swamp filled with Pus & Gore) 6)Gangrenous Hemorrhage 7)Bloated Carcass on the Verge of Implosion 8)Raining Maggots (Upon the Desecrated) 9)Necrotic Outro

Review:
INFECTING THE DISSECTED is another odd project by this same Joe guy! This one would be better described as a rough, grinding noisecore/harsh noise hybrid... There's a real drumkit being pummeled in a very grindcorey and intense way, on top of swirling chaotic noise and some phlegmy shrieks and wailing... I'm thinking maybe this stuff would benefit from an even filthier sound production?! Drumming is pretty kick-ass though, despite songs being totally devoid of any structure in the traditional sense, these are pretty fast and intense grind beats! This one should probably only be tollerated by true harsh noisecore freaks only! If that's you, check out this website: www.incinerator.us
